Kudowa is in the Sudety Mountains very close to the Czech border in South West Poland.
Reasonably easy to reach by daily flights from Stanstead to Wroclaw and then a two hour bus journey. If you book in advance the Wroclaw E. Club will be pleased to arrange for someone to meet you at the airport and put you on the bus to Kudowa, perhaps even travel there with you. For more details see their website http://vroclavo.republika.pl It is a pity that there are no photos of Kudowa on the site itself but if you do a google on the word ' Kudowa Zdroj' you will find some information and pictures.

There is in Bydgoszcz (that's quite easy to pronounce, yes really! Bidgosh-ch ) an Esperanto centre which operates full time throughout the year and teaches in Esperanto for a diploma in Tourism affairs. This is officially recognised by the Polish legal and educational authorities.

There are cheap daily flights from London-Stanstead direct to Bydgoszcz and it is well worth a visit. For many years Bydgoszcz has been a city with many Esperantists. Accommodation either in the Esperanto hotel or in home stay is available.

Nice things to do.

One of the nice things that can happen to you once you have learned even just a modest level of Esperanto is that you can take part in some of the many international holidays which are organised throughout the world. In this manner you have an enjoyable holiday and make new friends from other countries. Convenient for British are holidays in France, Germany, Poland and Hungary but there are many others as well.

The following tend to happen each year:
In Poland in June there is the BALTIC ESPERANTO HOLIDAY in the small seaside resort of Mielno. Also, in a vastly different location in the Sudety Mountains in south west Poland in August is the KUDOWA SPA holiday. Kudowa is a spa and yhou can take the waters whilst practising your Esperanto!

In France there is KASTELO GRESILLON , an old mansion in the Loire valley, owned by the Esperanto movement , where there are about 3 months of different holidays during the summer.

In Germany there is the ESPERANTO FAMILIES’ HOLIDAY usually in July and in the lake district north of Berlin. There are also one or even two winter holidays which last from December 27th to about January 3rd to see in the New Year.

For the religiously minded there is an annual ecumenical gathering which this year is in Hungary

In Russia there is a lively and youthful holiday called EOLA which this year is 29th April to 5th May in Jekaterinburgh.

4th Baltic Esperanto Forum.

July 22nd - 27th 2006. Bielostock, Poland. The name 'Forum' gives rather a wrong impression. Basically this is a holiday with 2 or 3 sessions of talks and discussion on the theme ' Zamenhof kaj la Nuntempo'. The rest of the time there are excursions and entertainments and of course plenty of time for making new friends from other countries, specially from those nearby such as Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Poland. This is a yearly event which moves around towns at the eastern end of the Baltic Sea.
Accomodation costs from 10 euros per 24 hour period. We don't seem to have a name for this but in Esperanto the word 'diurno' means just that. Annyway, 10 euros per day secures you a bed in a twin bedded room in a student hostel. Better quality is available in nearby hotels. Details from the organisers. Cheap airflights to Warsaw are by Wizz Air from Luton. At 6 February the cost of a return flight is £56.98 which includes airport taxes but don't forget that as seats are sold or the flight date comes nearer, so the price rises.

Passing through London?

If you need to pass through London on your way to or from somewhere, or if you live in London, think about visiting the London Esperanto Club in its new premises at the London Irish Centre, 50-52 Camden Square, London, NW1 9XB. The London Esperanto Club meets every Friday evening from 7pm until 10 pm. Most times there is an interesting programme of lectures and discussions. Usually there are several visitors from near and distant lands. Refreshmentsd are of course available.

Summer Festival at Barlaston, England. August 12-18 2006

Every summer for many years there has been a most entertaining summer school and festival at Wedgwood Memorial College, near Stoke on Trent. This year there will be courses of differing lengths. Some last the whole week whilst others may last only two or three days. In addition there will be excursions, visits to the local tavern and so on. Or, you can relax, enjoy the company and the food (specially the food, for which the College has been famous for many years and has been responsible for adding inches to the wastelines of many Esperantists. You can use some of your free time in the Butler Library which is either the second or the third largest collection of Esperanto literature in the world.
